Boost Pedal
The vintage Boss FA-1 FET Amplifier modernized and in a package that is familiar to every single Canadian, without the price fixing.

You might have heard about the mythical Boss FA-1. Originally released in 1984, it didn't really turn any heads until a guy with a weird name in an Irish band put it on his pedalboard and the rest is history!

The pedal itself is fairly straight forward: A JFET buffer into a gain stage and then into an active treble and bass active EQ and then out to your next pedal. Throw in a high pass filter before the gain stage and you have the FA-1.

We took this design and brought it into the 21st century. We spent a lot of time auditioning different options for the input stage - JFETs, BJTs, and even various opamps to get something that sounded pleasant and musical. We then turned our attention to the gain stage and active EQ. The original opamps that were used were chosen with cost as the #1 deciding factor. We auditioned a number of different opamps and settled on the one that sounded the best. Not the most expensive, but not the cheapest. We also selected resistors and capacitors with much higher tolerances than the ones used in the originals which means that there is less variation from pedal to pedal on what frequencies are actually boosted and cut.

Finally, we did some work under the hood. The original FA-1 didn't have a bypass option so we added a soft-touch switch that controls a relay (it's still true bypass). We used best engineering design and layout practices: bypass capacitors on all of the opamps and buffered bias voltages to make 100% sure that when you're rocking out hard that those power rails remain solid and that the opamps are never starved for voltage, even under the most extreme playing conditions.
